A Perfect Family Session on the Beach in Litchfield

The air was just right this August evening meeting up with the Culpepper family at Litchfield Beach. There is something I love about late summer in Pawleys Island.... It just feels different than mid summer vacation chaos. As a returning client, Katelyn and her large crew already knew the drill, but this session was different from their normal. This was the first time they decided to take their session to the sand, and I am so glad they did. The weather played along perfectly, offering us that soft, golden light that makes every frame look like a painting. It was one of those days where everything just clicked, the kids were full of energy, and the ocean provided the most peaceful backdrop for our time together.

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when you take a family out of their normal and let them run wild. The boys were in their element, jumping across the sand and sprinting through the surf. Watching them interact with each other while enjoying the atmosphere reminded me why I love being a family photographer here in Pawleys Island. We kept things moving and lighthearted, focusing on those candid, joyful movements rather than rigid poses. I gave them some fun activities to do to create fun moments to photograph. The laughter was constant, and seeing the siblings hold hands while walking along the water was the highlight of the afternoon.

Beyond the high-energy running and jumping, we made sure to capture the quiet, grounded moments that define this family. I loved watching the parents share their own moments together too. Everyone's outfits blended perfectly bring in soft tan and cream tones with some blues and greens too. The kids, especially the older teen in her beautiful sage floral maxi dress, brought such a calm presence to the group. Posing on the beach is exciting because the options are plentiful whether it's the wooden boardwalk stairs or standing together in the sand and water.

The best part of this entire experience was seeing the Culpeppers enjoy themselves. As a professional family photographer, my goal is always to get past the stiff poses and find the real personality of the group. With the sun dipping low and the salt air blowing, we managed to capture a whole gallery of images that show them exactly as they are. The kids had so much fun that they barely realized they were being photographed, which is exactly how it should be. It was a pleasure to see familiar faces again and to witness how much everyone has grown since our last time together.
